With only ten practices under someone’s belt, one would think it’d be quite difficult to excel, but North Eugene Dance Team was able to do just that. In late April, North Eugene Dance Team went to Disneyland, the “Happiest Place on Earth,” to perform a 25 minute showcase. North Eugene was one of the only dance teams from Oregon that had the honor of going to Disneyland to perform this year. They danced to songs from the Disney movies Tangled, Monsters Inc., Toy Story, Pocahontas, and many more. And even though the dance team was there for the showcase they all had a lot of time for rides, food, and making memories with their teammates.
The North Eugene Dance team worked extremely hard to fundraise and perfect their dances in the showcase. They had cookie dough sales, raffles, bazaar, worked football games, and even babysat children at local events to help get themselves to Disneyland. They may have only had 10 practices, but Melia B. North Eugene Dance Team member said, “We had to compile all of the routines from fall and relearn them to new music so it was complicated but we performed incredibly well.” After the showcase, the team was able to go on rides and vacation while they were there.
At Disneyland, all of the girls got to go to the amusement parks, and they even got to open Disneyland one morning. They went on Space Mountain, Guardians of the Galaxy, Splash Mountain, Thunder Mountain, and the Cars rides together. Stephanie N. a North Eugene Dance Team member and junior at North said, “My favorite rides were Guardian of the Galaxy and Space Mountain. We took a lot of hilarious pictures on a lot of the rides. I’m really happy we got to go.” The girls all made a lot of memories together, but one of their favorite parts of Disneyland besides dancing, was the firework show.
The North Eugene Dance Team has now wrapped up their 2017-18 season, and are starting auditions on May 8th and May 9th to continue their legacy. North Eugene has only been to Disneyland for two years now, but are likely to continue for many more. All students are welcome to try out, regardless of experience, and they’re looking forward to many more years of these types of showcases and events.
