Deep in the voids of space there is a star. A star very unique. This is the first star that we have found that has a planet known as the “Earth’s Cousin.” The name of the star is Kepler-186, and the planet’s name is Kepler-186f.

Kepler-186f is the first earth-size planet that we have found that is also found in the goldilocks zone. The goldilocks zone is the zone where a planet can contain liquid water, and with liquid water, you may be able to have life. The Earth is in the goldilocks zone of our star.

Scientists believe that because of Kepler-186f’s position around its sun being similar to the Earth’s, that it could have life. For scientists, this would be a tremendous discovery. This discovery would change our place in the universe in such a big way.

Kepler-186f however is 490 light years away. If we were able to travel at light speed it would take us 490 years to travel to Kepler-186f. We would need to make an expedition of a colony ship to Kepler-186f and found a colony on the planet to be able to examine the surface of the planet.

In any event in wouldn’t see the colonization, nor an expedition to the planet in our lifetime. Even if we were to launch the mission tomorrow, the ship wouldn’t make it until long after we in this generation or an earlier generation would be in the ground.

Still it is a very exciting discovery, and I am excited to see what Humanity does in the future with space travel, and Human expansion.
