Abel Tesfaye, also known as his stage name The Weeknd, released his new album Beauty Behind the Madness on August 28, 2015. The Weeknd’s sophomore album has a tracklist of 14 songs including five singles. Two of the singles featured on the album, “The Hills” and “Can’t Feel My Face,” reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100. The album also features an Academy-Award nominated song “Earned It” which was also the lead single for the soundtrack of Fifty Shades of Grey.
The album does not stray far from his last album’s sound. The Weeknd has a very unique sound and he seems to be honing and making it better over time. Many people complained that his first album sounded very redundant at points with very similar beats and very long songs, yet his new album is not the same in that way.
The Weeknd was able to secure himself some features from very famous singers. Lana Del Rey was featured on track 13 of the album entitled “Prisoner” and Ed Sheeran was featured on track number 12 called “Dark Times.” Beauty Behind the Madness was a great album with songs that had aspects of the old music that the Weeknd used to make as well as showing his true fans that he is still working to perfect his craft. I would give this a very good rating and recommend it to anyone who enjoys music.
