Former U.S. Army Officer Taylor Force, was stabbed to death in a recent terror attack that also left 10 others wounded in an old section of Tel Aviv, Israel on March 8th. “This horrific act of violence has robbed our Vanderbilt family of a young hopeful life and all of the bright promise that he held for bettering our greater world,” said Vanderbilt Chancellor Nicholas S. Zeppos.
Taylor Force was a part of a Vanderbilt University tour group who also had another 29 students and four staff members who went to Israel to study global entrepreneurship. The attack occurred when the tour group was in Jaffa by the Mediterranean Sea. Force, who was a graduate from West Point in 2009 and was a field artillery officer until 2014, went to Israel to see how Israelis were interacting with global trade and what was going on.
Force chose Vanderbilt for the support for veterans, and the diversity of the students. The attack occurred near a popular oceanfront boardwalk near Tel Aviv not far from where U.S. Vice president Joe Biden was visiting. The man who killed Force was fatally shot by the Israeli police. Taylor Force was 28 years old.
