TCU won the Alamo Bowl on January 2nd, 47-41 in triple overtime against the Oregon Ducks behind TCU’s Quarterback Bram Kohlhausen and the offense’s second half explosion. Oregon started off the game red hot, going up 31 by halftime, but early in the third quarter senior standout Vernon Adams Jr., who had accounted for 197 yards, a touchdown and also kept plays alive by throwing downfield which led them to four consecutive touchdown drives, took a big hit to the head which made him watch the rest of the game from the sidelines. Redshirt Junior Jeff Lockie would then take over as quarterback and struggled, but it wasn’t all his fault. Fifth year senior Matt Hegarty also went down early in the game and did not return, so backup center Doug Brenner took over the snapping duties and had several low bad snaps. Oregon’s defensive squad wasn’t able to close out the game. They gave up touchdown after touchdown letting Bram Kohlhausen throw for 351 yards and four touchdowns, one in being the game winner, a rushing touchdown in the third overtime. History was made by TCU, tying the largest comeback in a bowl game, previously being set by Texas Tech against Minnesota in the 2006 Insight Bowl.

Kohlhausen, whose father died Nov. 7th, celebrated with his mom on the field after the game and said, “This is the one I’ll tell my grandkids. This is a night that I thought would never happen. I dedicate it to Trey. He showed me how to play like I did tonight.” Trey being Trevone Boykin who was suspended that game for assaulting an officer in San Antonio earlier that week. Oregon Senior Deforest Buckner who is projected to be a top-10 pick in the upcoming draft said after the game, “This whole year, especially on the defensive side, it’s been struggle in the second half to finish games.” Oregon Ducks’ Coach Mark Helfrich said after the game, “It’s tough to end like this” and “They made one more play than us.”
